WorldwideSax.com is a Vintage Saxophone repair shop that also buys, completely rebuilds and resells Vintage Professional Saxophones. I also do Rebuilds and Restorations for customers from all over the world.

WWS is a by appointment only specialist, not a "music store". Customers can see and hear what is available on this website.

NOTICE: You are viewing the old WWS website.

(Inventory is out of date. In your http address, you'll see "old" for these

WWS archives. We wanted to keep this live for saxophone research.)

If  a horns says "just rebuilt", then it's ready to go, saxes that say "scheduled for a rebuild" are waiting for the work to be done, but it will be included in the posted price.  If a sax says "ON TRIAL" someone is taking advantage of the "Three Day Trial" policy (See Info and Orders page).

(On Consignment - Plays Excellent, Fresh Rebuild) BEAUTIFUL!

#304k with Rolled Tone holes. ORIGINAL FINISH at 85%. I'm not going to talk too much about this one. The resume should tell you all you need to know. It plays awesome; it is the prime era for Conn 10M sound. You'll love it. Note the reso upgrade: The boost to the tones is adding some treble to the power. aka: a legit jazzer might not love the boost, but a Rock 'n' Roller will love it. [this is not a major difference, just something I must make a note of for your ears. If you'd like to have a conversation about it, let's chat! Also, I can work up a Sound File per your Request also.]  Fresh Tan Pads, new metal thumbhook from the owner. (YES! You'll love this!) Also, the original thumbhook is in the case to preserve originality.

--Like-New Protec XL case ($155~)

--Thumbhook upgrade ($70~)

(Original hook is in the case for the collector)

--Fresh repad ($900-1100~)

--Brass reso upgrade ($150~)

= +$1275.00 (est) of invested value into a great sax.

1934 Buescher "Early" Aristocrat Tenor:  Sarge's words: Rare early version of the Aristo, (with traits of TrueTone and Aristo) with the small bell for a more focused, sweeter sound. Original lacquer is good, over 80% present. Crisp, sharp beautiful Art Deco engraving.  Think Johnny  Hodges tone.  Serial # 268,xxx, built about 1934. No major damage ever done to it.  Neck looks great no pull down thanks to the art deco brace The snap in resonator system is intact, as are the Norton springs.  I did a Premium Buescher snap in pad rebuild on it and was so pleased with the sound... I have tried it with several mouthpiece and it has a number of amazing tones, but most impressive was with my Otto Link "slant signature" hard rubber piece.  The amount of volume/output with this sax is about double what you'd expect for a late thirties horn... very close to a "The Martin Tenor" in power, but then i put a Link Master on it and it went totally airy and smooth with a centered warm tone.  really versatile.

This is probably built more for the collector, not the player--old buescher Tranny traits, side pip location experiments affect tuning. AND "No", the mouthpiece is not included, sorry, it's one of Sarge's and isn't for sale. If just looked cool in the photos. CASE: is the original Buescher case, purple interior. It's in good/great shape, minor edge frays but the condition matches the love of the sax's good condition.

(Special Consignment - plays good, original pads) COLLECTOR ALERT! Original pads, minor tune-ups done. Ser# 346,xxx dates it to 1953-4!  You'd be surprised how long these Buescher pads can last! Notable mentions: one resolder (neck support braces--very well done), minor dings removed from bow, bell lip wear on an old rim bend(see pic). Comes with original case in very good shape (all latches work etc).

This is a nice 400 model made about a year after the Selmer takeover ser. # 420,xxx.  The finish is original and to me, looks very handsome.  It has the same body, neck with underslung octave mechanism and keywork as the famous older brother the "Top Hat" model, but with nickel plated keys.  Buescher still made great 400's through the sixties, this one was made appx. 1967.  It has a warm centered tone, but can be pushed hard with a metal mouthpiece.  The Lacquer is original and about 85%, but the neck and the inside of the bell are nearly worn to bare brass.  I plan burnish out a few dents and to do a complete Buescher style rebuild and it will go for

(On Consignment - Plays great) ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL! This rare Buffet S-1 looks and plays great on  arrival and the pads might still be original (I bet not--pads in excellent condition). The sax is being sold from the second owner! The whole horn is very clean and is original--Although it tests even lacquer experts, the story will vouch and match the Originality. It even has the original Buffet case in excellent condition to match!

Known for its well design, these heavy horns keep adjustment well and are very reliable, also excellent intonation and crazy gadgets on the Eb/C rocker, Low Bb table, High F#, & opt. F#--Highly over-engineered. The serial number is 26,0xx, which means it was made in 1976.  the 70's model Buffets had a little more edge and some folks prefer them for that trait. The S-1 is actually quite brighter and bolder than the previous SDAs; so they're a cross between the Buffet SDA & a King Super 20 but lean towards the French sound.

OK!, this great sax that has seen better days. These are great players, so I wanted to make it someone's perfect gig sax! AND improve the cosmetics! Slightly abused, but nothing major. LET'S MAKE IT AWESOME.

Named: "Hotrod", Ser.# m211,xxx. another great "Chu" in original silver, with gold wash bell (in good shape) with nailfile G#, rolled tone holes, everything we love. Overall it's in good condition with minor wear only on a few key tops and rods! Upon initial inspection, there was one main 'damage story' in its past: the lower edge looks to have taken a knock, the bell-to-body brace needs resoldered, the rear body tube will need aligned to the bow (de-soldered damage), and address the front knock, address dents to the high palm keys, messy solders, remove the unnecessary lyre holder, The Front F rocker arm went missing but I'll fabricate a replacement of some sort (if not, replace it with a spare one!).  Just call her by Name: "Hot Rod".

Now, if you've never played a Chu, they are stunningly powerful tenors...big fat sound top to bottom.  Ergos are not that great, but I know a lot of players that play them in spite of the 20's design and would never switch to a Selmer.

WWS SPECIAL CUSTOM PROJECT - "Hot Rod - The Super Gigger":

~White Roo pads to be dyed RED.

(On Consignment - Plays Excellent, Fresh Rebuild) #304k with Rolled Tone holes.

--Thumbhook upgrade ($70~)  (Original hook is in the case for the collector)

--Fresh repad ($900-1100~)

--Brass reso upgrade ($150~)

GUARDALA:

Another really fantastic German sax is a B&S stencil, for Dave Guardala. I have been searching  for a early serial number Guardala model 500 for some time.  The craftsmanship is awesome on these horns.  Ergonomics are up there with Keilwerth and Selmer, the materials used are far above par.  The sound is unique and falls somewhere in-between a Conn "Chu" Tenor and a Keilwerth SX90R.  Here is Sarge's description for this particular Tenor:

A baby from Sarge's Collection:

Dave Guardala "New York, USA" model DG500GL Rose Gold lacquer tenor:  Whew! this baby always gets more looks in the shop than most. What a color! This Uber-professional level Bb Tenor saxophone is fabricated and hand made from 72% formulated Copper alloy yellow brass with full rib post construction and hand hammered bell. All rods are solid nickel silver with stainless steel screws, springs are tempered blue steel and authentic Mother of Pearl key buttons are used throughout.

The serial number is super low FROM THE FIRST YEAR OF PRODUCTION

SOLD The mouthpiece (in the pics) is sarge's and is not for sale or included.

KEILWERTH:

1954-55 Keilwerth "The New King" tenor:  (Player's tenor)

JK-The_New_King_25k_001.JPG (1152567 bytes)JK-The_New_King_25k_002.JPG (1435538 bytes)JK-The_New_King_25k_003.JPG (966243 bytes)JK-The_New_King_25k_004.JPG (680843 bytes)JK-The_New_King_25k_005.JPG (1517147 bytes)JK-The_New_King_25k_006.JPG (980970 bytes)JK-The_New_King_25k_007.JPG (1243967 bytes)JK-The_New_King_25k_008.JPG (1192637 bytes)

Here we go! I am biased toward loving Keilwerths...

With the great JK WING-KEYGUARD (metal) and with Ser#25,9xx, JK dating dates it to the mid 50s, Overall the horn is good shape. It \has had a few player upgrades and alterations (Selmer thumbrest!, pants guard replaced).  It is original deep honey lacquer at 75%.  It arrived with some pretty nice pads. I'll inspect the whole sax and my sure she's able to rock and blow the doors down. SOUND: JK is known for full body, and spread harmonics.

REPAIRS/Modifications: You can see a few repairs or modification to the sax. 1) the pants guard added(ask me about gold plating this to match the front guard), 2) the bell guard being the brighter gold (read on), 3) the octave thumb rest was moved to the side for better comfort while seated(I approve this move), 4) the thumbrest replaced into a Selmer hook. (I believe the original thumb hook, like a Martin size, is still in the case).

CASE: it comes in an early Protec model, which is a molded wrap, with a fake leather stitch over a hard case mold. Works well in good condition.

COOL STORY: It's a rare treat to have been taught by The Sarge (father of WWS). I studied his efforts so well that I can recognize his work. I was shocked on arrival because I could see it!!! This was worked on by Sarge! It received his Premium Rebuild with extra special green ultra suede and teflon linkages. It was too wild of a coincidence not to check in with the owner I got this from. He had to verify with another fellow prior. YEP. Sure enough, it was.  I can almost remember Sarge talking about this sax and goldplating the bell guard!

Although I can date the rebuild to roughly 8-9years ago, the sax arrived playing great with an "A-" grade and the pads showing little use. Talk about how good Sarge's work was!  How's your sax doing after 8 years?  I will give the case a full tune up, and adjustment, and ensure she's at an A+ grade.

a rare classic from Sarge's Collection (his description):

1959 Keilwerth "ToneKing" Tenor:

JKTKT1.JPG (166293 bytes)JKTKT2.JPG (172308 bytes)JKTKT3.JPG (117120 bytes)JKTKT4.JPG (150080 bytes)  This Tenor was identical to the "New King" model, but for one added key, a high F# Gizmo key... for this reason, JK decided to market the Tone King as the "Pro" model and the New King as the Standard.  Serial # 37,xxx, it was built in about 1959, they only made Pro models during these years.  These are supremely warm and smoky,  jazzy horns, built solid like a tank, just heavy and beefy... and the sound was like that too.  Keywork was great and ideas were stolen from almost every great pro horn to make this one.  The neck tightening screw is like a Martin, the toneholes are rolled like a Conn, G#/Bb cluster is similar to a Selmer SBA...  these can stand with any other horn from this era.  Highly undervalued, should be worth 4000.00, i have seen nice examples like this one go for 2500.00... but hey, they are rare too, and you know what happens to rare tenors.  I rebuilt it with Saxgourmet pads and Resotech slightly domed, Solid silver resonators.

Chadd comments: I'm scared to touch these ones with the plastic guard. But I like the look! It's like watching a machine in action! SOUND!!! This sax has HUGE Power! The Treble boost CUTS through! I need a Sound File to prove this!

This is in the prime of the Zephyrs era!--Big Super20 sound, half the price!...and SILVER It has the double socket neck, improved G# table, many features you would find on the 50's King Super 20.  Original silver plating is 90% intact with a few small areas that have worn to brass.  No major dings or dents in the horn, typical small dings and pings, which i will do my best to remove.  the original low c keyguard was replaced, but i have a new company link making these! SO! i can find an exact replacement and silver-plate it to match--good as new. :) Comes with original case in rough, vintage shape. Ask me about case options! It will get our "French Standard" rebuild, but substituted large flat metal reso's, for the selmer style plastic ones--so it will have a rebuild like it rolled out with in the 1950s.

SOUND: We did a side-by-side with my 1950 Zephyr in lacquer, this silver one rang clearer in the tone--clean, precise in response. perhaps that is a slightly boost in the Treble tones, if you must label it like that.

Nice original lacquer super 20, with the Serial number 325,692.  These have a lot of nice features, like  pearls on all the keys and Sterling Silver, sleeve style neck, but what i really love is the rich, big tone.  Super 20's are more or less divided up into 3 categories, early, middle and late production, this one falls in the middle and has a great balance of sound.  The King horns sure get my vote and i gig with them often. Another great Martin here at WWS. It's a 65% Original Lacquer "The Martin Tenor" purchased from the 2nd owner.  These are super hard to find and always in high demand. The serial numbers match on the Neck and Body #202k dates it to 1957,  Martin's have a great tone that is quickly becoming very well respected in the market--clean tone, resonant low end!, even tone throughout, and better than average ergos for the vintage sax world. Original case is rough-stinky shape...I might be pairing this sax with a NEW CASE. It will get our Vintage Standard Rebuild with flat metal resonators and natural cork throughout.

It's serial # is 210,79x,  made in 1960.  This one is an older relac, in nice shape overall.  I need to remove a little messy solder on the low C guard and tonehole, but the pics are "before" style, big pics, so you can see anything up close, as it is now.  The Magna's extra features are an adjustable octave mechanism screw to control the height of the octave key, an extra big and comfy LH thumb pearl, adjustable bow and bell key felts and extra rollers on the G# table.   This one is RMC, so it does have the "Roundtable" crest on it.  With the right pad and reso setup in them, these can be the worlds best Bebop' tenors.  The sound of the Magna is not much different than any other Committees, but they do have the advantage of a silver cross to ward off attack by Vampires!  Great, rare Pro horns, big ol' fat sound, unlike any other...   Just completely rebuilt, (our Vintage rebuild: dissemble it, clean it inside and out, add new natural cork and prestini pads/flat reso's, lube and reassembled it, then check for leaks, she is ready to blow).   Comes in nice square protec case.

Sometimes I get the sentimental stories to enjoy: previously sold and shipped around the world, this sax was repurchased by WWS (Consider that I should stash this in Chadd's Collection). I'll list it for sale at this time even though my other Martin is also for sale (at the time of this posting).

Serial #218k with Black Roos, HUGE silver Resotech resos! This was one of Sarge's Collection saxes. He first got it in original condition and gave it his favorite rebuild setup. He recorded a few tracks on it. We sold it to Switzerland and I had the opportunity arise to buy it back. I took it!  It was loved, and played while away. I feel the need to mention a few dings that  just happen. The Eb guard was burnished out by me, as well as a little burnishing on a few ding in the bell and bow. The bow guard (front bottom) took a small hit too. Your eyes don't notice these things as you are certainly more drawn to the engraving that is full and crisp.

CASE: Comes with original, orange Martin case in great shape also.

YOU WON'T FIND A NICER ONE!

There is no need to talk much about this sax's quality. It plays with a smoky tone as expected, with the warmth and clarity of an SBA.  The finish is an 85% relacquer.

Superb Serial #53,xxx with Mark VI bell keyguard!!! (I love this! because I hate the earlier design; from my Tech review.)  It also comes with vintage Selmer "Centered Tone" wood Clarinet! ($$$) The clarinet does play all the way down also, however I would recommend some major repadding on it too.

CASE: the vintage Selmer tri-pack case (flute and clarinet zones intact). The case is in pretty nice shape (one zipper pull lever is gone).

#108k, player/collector's delight, ORIGINAL lacquer 80%! Will need a full rebuild to be fully enjoyable, however, I will tune it up so that you can play test it on the old pads. There are signs of past dent work in the bell and bow, one noticeable dent on the front bow guard, evidence of minor pull-down that was repaired well. No serial number on the neck.

SOUND: This sax has a great resemblance in sound to the early 5-digit selmers. NOTE: rumor has it that the great craftsmen of the late 50s were still working on the Mark VIs through about #110xxx. This means that you can have that 5-digit tone in a sax like this and save $1000-4000 off that early-era pricing.

CASE: used protec case(blue) in nice shape.

These are superb tenors, made in France and rare as well. This one is in original perma-gold plate that I will call 98%. The Rev D is very well respected and known for a uniquely special tone.  This sax has a nice engraving and I love the shiny vs matte look SML created in this original setup. Serial # 12xxx = 1955, Gold Finish was SMLs top option and super rare, thus the price. SML saxophones have a big Conn 10m like sound, but the advantage of french mechanical design, so they are more ergonomic. The SMLs really do have a sound all their own--French focus crossed with American Beef--Superb!  Did I mention that my personal alto is a Rev D?!?! ;)   The case is currently a none original vintage case is nice shape. This one has yet to be rebuilt but it completely deserves "The Sarge Special Rebuild"--Premium with larger resos (Resotech-gold ones!). Price includes the deluxe rebuild! :)

Here is a true SML build with the stenciled name branding. This specific detail will save you about $2000, but your sound will be identical to your SML craving ears. Serial #19xxx dates it to about the 1966-67 and the Gold Medal 1 era. Translation: Huge, fat, SML tone during some of their best years. Original Lacquer finish at 97%. Negatives: a few dings and pings that I'll burnish out; two on the neck, about 3 on the back bow, and the pants guard will bend back to 'straight'. I have no doubts that these will clean up nicely and only show a bit of past work. The neck tenon was resoldered. I can help clean it up, but it was done pretty well.

CASE: original hard case in good working order, has seen owner-mods with screws.

Don't forget all the SML features like "Articulated G# on/off lever" too.

This one has yet to be rebuilt but it completely deserves "The Sarge Special Rebuild"--Premium with larger resos (Resotech! $250). Once it's set up, I guarantee you will turn heads and slay a few Selmers (PS-I love SMLs and am very tempted to keep this sax in my personal stash).
