WWS is a by appointment only specialist, not a "music store". Customers can see and hear what is available on this website.

NOTICE: You are viewing the old WWS website.

(Inventory is out of date. In your http address, you'll see "old" for these

If  a horns says "just rebuilt", then it's ready to go, saxes that say "scheduled for a rebuild" are waiting for the work to be done, but it will be included in the posted price.  If a sax says "ON TRIAL" someone is taking advantage of the "Three Day Trial" policy (See Info and Orders page).

1927-28 Buescher Bb Tipped-Bell Soprano: yep, the ultra rate Tipped Bell, in original silver plate. Ser#204k has the pearl G#. It does have a little bend in the bell lip that i will round back out AND gold plate the interior. There is no major damage to mention, only one small ding that I will smooth out too. There is normal wear and tear on the arm tips and edges, and 2-3 zones up the tube that are showing the brass.  Also in the original case! Super cool!

The bell lip look bent from the case (drop...sad), but I'll smooth that out more and goldplate a wash in there.

SUPER Buffet soprano (rare), in silver!(RARE), keyed to high F; also with SOLDERED ON TONEHOLES! (like a King or Martin)

Original case in good shape. Pads, the owner says, were invested in not long ago. (I can look more into this when the sax arrives here for the pre-sale tune-up); PHOTOS ARE "BEFORE" MAJOR PAD REPAIRS. It's worth mentioning that the lyre holder is removed (post solder evidence on the backside--good thing you don't want that anyway!)  Notice the modern keywork!: Articulated G#+B, palm key design(not In-line)!

A cool piece of history, competing prior to the Selmer Mark VI, rarer than the VI.

1919 Silver Conn Curved Soprano: ser#57K, keyed up to high F, not the in-line palm keys (a +).  Great % of silver intact but with Goldwash bell mostly worn away.  Conn Wonders have exceptional tone full of harmonics and spread for a big, smooth vintage tone...less harsh/cutting than the later Chu sopranos.  (Chadd plays on a 1924 straight Wonder.) There is no major damage to mention, neck looks good!, Eb key guard is a replacement. I think I can fabricate a better replacement, silver it to match (all included) ...or...you can leave Eb as is and -$150 to 2249. I'd give ya a deal on replating the bell gold for $75.  The case was beyond repair, so I will find another one! We will give it a Vintage Conn Standard rebuild with flat metal resos. all included for:

Chadd comments: ser # 72,979. This is one of the last saxes Sarge worked on for himself. He took it to a limited number of family gathering too. :) comes in original hard case WITH the ultra rare "Y" stand for setting the sax down (still not recommended to use in fear of damage). The screw to hold the "Y", like a special lyre screw, never came with the sax but I might be able to fabricate/find a replacement. Comes in original case (no handle, but the metal rings are intact). It got a Vintage Standard Rebuild ($749) with seamless flat metal resos($45) by The Sarge, himself. --minor tuneups pending before shipping.

Silver King Saxello Bb soprano - Sarge Restoration:

saxello 009.jpg (1118005 bytes) Sarge: I  paid a lot for this sax and when i received it, i was pretty surprised to find a lot of areas that had been damaged and repaired, but not mentioned.  I wasn't overly happy with the entire back side, all around the thumbrest, near the bottom stack toneholes and some other areas.  the sax came to me with several dents and some scratches, which i did my best to remove. Serial # 71k.

the low D tonehole was damaged, then repaired.  they did a good job of getting it level so it plays fine, but they did a poor job in the cosmetic issues... which I tried to improve on and did, but in my opinion, not enough.  the post for the bell keys was resoldered once, a cosmetically fair job, but doing it's job just fine.

there is another area that is harder to see, on the opposite side of the low D that is not pretty too, but as I said, it seals just fine and the sax plays well.  i don't know what happened to it, but the repairs were rough... use of the wrong size dent ball left scratches on the inside surface, etc etc.  stuff that is hard to erase.

Sound File:  Sopranos-Martin, vs. SML, vs. King Saxello

All of that said, it is playing very nicely, it has a beautiful lush tone that only Saxello's have.  Intonation is normal for a Saxello, which is to say, fair to average... and the low d tonehole repair did not affect anything soundwise.  If you look over the pics well, i think you can get a feel for the cosmetic issues, like resolders, dent removal, scratches... and weigh that against the beautiful 24 carat gold keys and bell and find as i do, that this is a pretty nice horn.  Saxello's never go cheap.  It was given my complete PREMIUM rebuild, with Prestini pads and flat metal resonators on the larger keypads and plays really nice, rich fat soprano sound.

comments from the H.N.White website: 1927 Saxello ad.jpg (198344 bytes)

The Saxello is a Bb Soprano saxophone with it's own unique form. The Saxello was introduced in 1924-25 and had a half turned bell with curved top. The H. N. White Company felt that the Saxello offered: improved tone, added comfort, ease of playing and better flash. On November 2, 1926 The Saxello was Patented becoming one of the first of many improvements made to King Saxophones. Unfortunately, The Saxello became a victim of the cut backs of the great depression and production stopped in the late 1930's. The Saxello was mostly made in satin silver but there were a few made with gold plating and artist engraving. Today top manufactures of musical instruments produce Saxello's for many of the same reasons The H. N. White Company did.

1977 SML/ King Marigaux Bb Straight Soprano: - Made by SML,  in Paris Serial #25786. Gold lacquer - I removed one small dent in the upper 1/3rd, otherwise no dents at all, but lacquer is worn in many places.  A close look at this shows it has just had 95% of it's pads replaced...  the only thing wrong was only two notes played on it, c and c#...  i guess, a novice rebuilder?  I had to start all over from scratch, because the amateur's job was sooo bad.  I just completely rebuilt it, all new prestini pads and flat metal reso's.  I almost forgot, there's also some premium extras (G# and Octave pips/linkage...) added at no charge.  just got a very nice hard case for this too.

Yamaha YSS-61 pro soprano, late '70s: (On Consignment--rebuild recommended) This is not my usual listing but it is technically "Vintage". ;)  This is the vintage Yamaha pro line with Purple Label before the "62", perhaps equivalent to the "475" by current standards. This model was considered to be the "improved" design based on the Selmer Mark VI; AND with rumored input from Eugene Rousseau. ser# 2386, gold lacquer, modern hard case in great shape. great ergos and excellent intonation! only 1 ping-dent to mention, minor scratches, and mild wear. Stainless steel yamaha springs, all adjustment screws present. The pads are older (likely original) and, while it does play to low Bb i recommend immediate pad work. No front F key, (model 62 got this), but still keyed to high F#. Do your research and you'll find all this info and lots of support for this model. With a few new pads, this will be a fantastic player! with a fresh repad, these go for 1800-2500 depending on lacquer condition.
