WorldwideSax.com is a Vintage Saxophone repair shop that also buys, completely rebuilds and resells Vintage Professional Saxophones. I also do Rebuilds and Restorations for customers from all over the world.

WWS is a by appointment only specialist, not a "music store". Customers can see and hear what is available on this website.

NOTICE: You are viewing the old WWS website.

(Inventory is out of date. In your http address, you'll see "old" for these

If  a horns says "just rebuilt", then it's ready to go, saxes that say "scheduled for a rebuild" are waiting for the work to be done, but it will be included in the posted price.  If a sax says "ON TRIAL" someone is taking advantage of the "Three Day Trial" policy (See Info and Orders page).

BERG LARSON:

Berg Numbers: [TIP] - [Baffle] (0 brightest, to 3 darkest) - [Facing Length] (SMS short, M longer)

***Bergs usually run -0.005 under the factory stamp marking.***

Makes me sad. That's too bad. It looks like a 70s Berg...They rock! So I'll hand-craft it into perfection - Flatten table, adjust curve start, and reset to the tip size, 0.105". I'll do this enchancing reface, and help it out. The tone in unique - for Berg! It sounds more like a Meyer crossed with a vintage JK/Wagner rubber/Otto Link, which are sweet players too! because it lost the baffle/bullet, it has more warmth, and less bark. sorry, no ligature.

This "Straight Bill" is a stainless steel, metal mouthpiece with a bullet chamber. a butt-kicking assisted-original 0.130" tip size...Berg's usually run -5 from their numbers. So! I think the original owner actually did some minor modifications. The tip seals well. (He was professional metal worker and craftsman, so I'm sure he was capable.) It still has side-to-side table marks, and has the longer shank (later era)...It's a 70s/80s vintage. Worth noting: I would need to research more this, but it may be more of an "M" and a "SMS" facing length--however, the 0.130" might be a special thing.  REAL FAT tone, and air needed! it's the straight + bullet chamber model. Comes with nickel nail-file lig and a nickel cap (non berg). Compare this with new bergs at +$275...and this is a vintage one!

This is now a [110-2-M] and the facing is right at 0.110-112", plays nice, has a fat tone. Comes with a replacement, nickel Berg lig with some cork glued in to fit the reed.

a superb mouthpiece. It reminds me of my frequent flyer. good material, and a near original tip, had slight enhancements done here at WWS, is at 0.095" , table markings were worked off prior to WWS (but trust the Offset M for the era). Bullet chamber is there, does show very mild evidence of work done(nothing to fear). We also inspected the minor wear to the rail to ensure the seal is still free-and-clear. I've marked the price down $50 for these. I found a vintage Berg ligature to pair with it too!

SOUND: It's big, robust, yet clear, the #3 baffle helps leave some warmth in this robust core tone.

currently listed 3/2016

I'm betting that the first person to try it will keep it.

here's one of the rarest of the rare!: Real fat tone, it's the vintage duckbill + bullet chamber + boat tail table.  It has the short shank. Checked out by Bob Carpenter, It measures a 0.105" with 24mm facing length. The script is very faint on the shank but you can still see the slant signature!--me staring at the # side, I think it reads [95] originally, and baffle number, I would guess, would be a 2 or 3 from just looking at the baffle. I can't read the [M vs SMS] at all. Sorry, no ligature

So Bob and I decided to make it right. Bob Carpenter refaced the tip to a 0.95" with a 23mm facing. It is a longer facing that my normal so my embouchure had to adjust to this piece, but after I paired with a happier reed, it came alive. There are no cracks to mention. BrilS7tenor_001.jpg (350899 bytes)BrilS7tenor_002.jpg (230091 bytes)Brilhart Personaline S7 tenor: black with wood-grain toothpad. Markings of "S7" ...a 7 !!!, ser# 134479. Tip measured 0.081-082" on arrival. (check for Refaced size) composite material mouthpiece with the Circle wood-grain tooth pad. Bob Carpenter might come in for a reface...The chamber has mild/medium side walls, with a great sound. There is slight nick in the tip edge, (NOT hurting the seal--see upper left), but it might need Bob's attention to clean it up but I think you could leave it as is to keep it original. The damaged edge would disappear in a reface. I made it 0.084", and it plays very easy!

Here is another highly sought after Brilhart!, original facing #3 on the table.4-digit ser# with, what I believe is the first number scratched off.  Expect Bob Carpenter to give this one a special Refacing to optimize your joy! --YES: Bob refaced it! It is a 0.097" with a Long 23mm facing. (Note this fact). The 23mm facing is not my personal preference, but it might your embouchure style--worth noting--Mouthpiece plays really great.

Sound type:  It has very even, BOLD, clean tone. It is not "smooth", per se. It has a crisp bark with a smooth rubber general tone. (the "hard rubber" #6 listed below is more Smooth.) The tooth pad lived with a biter, HA, so Bob cleaned it up with extra attention and smoothed it out. Depending on your preference for cosmetics or comfort, perhaps a tooth pad will cover this area. Sorry, no ligature...yet? Bob LOVED this piece. I think he wants to buy it from me. (how's that for an endorsement?):

These are one of the best Hard Rubber Mouthpieces ever made.  We got it as an altered #6 tip and I'll have Bob Carpenter open it up to perfection... There was a minor tooth groove I had Bob fix also. These have a a Nice big sound, medium tone, not too dark, not too bright, Sarge had THREE in his collection for a while, It's "best of" material!  These often out-play vintage rubber Otto Links but are more affordable. It looks like it was well played, but was most likely made in the mid 50's, serial number 013167. You don't often see "6" facings on this. It arrived slightly larger than original tip, measuring 0.093". Bob opened it up to 0.103"...technically that makes it an 8* tip. Considering Bob's beautiful reface, the price is going to be 549.00.  It will probably sell quickly, as i have seen them sell at ebay for

Available as of 3-5-2015  ... After the reface Bob said, "You're not getting it back." (The highest compliment he has ever said about a mouthpiece. He was serious.) Another great, historical gem! black hard rubber,  TIP MEASURES 0.118" -- WOW. There is very little known about these early pieces. I will say this: This piece played great!  I loved playing it. My estimate is that it was an early 1980s design/manufacture (although it could be an older 'design' as rumors have it as a Blank later used by Beechler. The 118 tip was very easy to blow! I will attempt to put together some rumors (forum talkers) and hearsay that may shed some light on it:

     Description:

      The short:

Superb mouthpiece! Hard Rubber. Arnold Brilhart "Hard Rubber" / "Great Neck Original" 9*
--sweet sounds, easy blower,
--factory flaws in the shank (covered by neck cork), does not affect playing.
--horizontal machine marks on the table.
--Chamber: is medium, with lightly rounded side-walls. Less round the the official Brilhart "Hard Rubber" model.

      The Long:

Here was my reply to an inquiry about my originally limited info:
The Beechler company did [make] the ARB line; this was in cooperation [with] Brilhart.
I shall certainly add more to the brief description as this rare mouthpiece deserves a proper introduction and representation.

Most people don't know about the early "Hard Rubber"/"Great Neck Original". They are wildly respected and great playing mouthpieces.
Even Beechler's website doesn't have photos of this vintage one (20-30yrs old) as they focus on their newest creations (white with side-walls in the chamber); nor does the tip measurement match up with their website markings for a [#9 ARB at 0.110"]. Even the #10 is only a 0.115. I just think this mouthpiece is slayer and the added 0.118 tip carried the need for a serious player too, right?
SOTW fellow: "The Great Neck Original blanks were the original blanks used by Brilhart, and were later found and sold by Beechler."
SOTW fellow: "So there is no confusion-- the ARB GREAT NECK ones were blanks that were faced by ARB with their standard facings and numbers, so they bear no correlation to the facings of the original Brilhart GREAT NECK models, the only thing in common is the blank."

The alto counterparts are also fantastic players and sell very well. I still recall the last one I had in here.
If you have any extra and unique info on this rare piece, I'm all ears on it.

Regardless of all the unknown info, at the end of the day, all that matters is that it 1) plays well, and 2) it is always great to have some historical link to the great mouthpiece makers of the sax world.  It was a pleasure to have it pass through my hands here at WWS. (for the time being, I will put this under "Brilhart")

Dave Guardala "DG", Brecker Tenor: Yep. The Bomb right here. The handmade greatness, # 5432 with "DG" on the front. Original tip @ 0.112". although there is evidence of work in the baffle, I can almost guarantee that Sarge and Bob would never have touched it. That leads me to think that it happened in the handmade process to create the optimum smoothness because you can see how it ties in with the machine marks above and below it--silver plated. The sound is awesome; made to mimic King Curtis--Sarge's favorite--there is a high baffle and cutout. The Brecker handmade model screams! Very bright with strong power and depth, super free blowing. Comes with original ligature and a plastic DG cap.

"Atilla" on the lower shank (???).  Original tip @ 0.112" on arrival, but I needed to repair the rail-seal and metal flaking off. WWS REPAIRED TIP @ 0.111".  Repairs consisted of seal enhancement and new silver plating to the table and rail edges. Currently, I don't have a ligature paired with it but I'd be happy to look for a good one for you. A slight tooth groove in the bite pad, and a new clear pad stuck on.

Original Guardala memo:

"STUDIO: This is the third brightest of the tenor models. It has tremendous volume with unexcelled resonance and a full and balance frequency response. This model incorporates a high baffle with a medium bore. the sound of this model is clearly demonstrated by Michael Brecker in the period 1979-1982 [brecker brothers band]. The studio can be used for all types of music a 'Studio Man' would encounter from Fusion to Swing, hence the name. This is our middle of the road mouthpiece."

Vintage Otto Link STM "USA" 6*, early Babbitt, thin tip tenor: a mid-70s "Super Tone Master", length measures 100mm and the 18mm SKINNY tooth pad. These are a bit rarer and less known. After cleaning it up, the play test was nice--subtle smooth "Link tone", but the response wasn't quite [butter] on my first reed. Tip and table showed some very slight refacing adjustments. However, according to my inspection, I will have to give this one a Full Reface. This Link deserves it. I am aiming for a butter-responsive tip and a warm Otto Link Tone. Comes with ligature and cap! (Box is here too, but it was on a new level of gross smell). It just received a reface & replating my me. I tried to keep it as close to original as possible. The untrained eye won't even know it was worked on. The curve wasn't even a "curve" on arrival. UPDATE: Tip measures 0.094" (#6+)after reface 22.5 facing length.

...1950s "NO USA"Otto Link--short body, no serial #, small font with roll-over baffle (=brighter tone). Has a slight roll-over baffle as was the design (more brighter) and perhaps more of a baffle in this one because of tip change from the 4* (small font) marking up to the ~#6 size. refaced tip @ 0.093"....or a 6+ (6 = ~0.091). I can almost certainly tell you that this tip was done by Bob Carpenter (I know the story on this mouthpiece and the buyer traded it in many years later). The bite pad shows signs of being repaired (glue) to hold, and it appears there was a pickup filled. (I don't see any worries there--I just feel the need to mention).  I did a few inspection points on the tip (since it was out with player for so long), I opted to do very minor touchups to clean up the table & tip seal. As was done previous, I'll seal those repairs with fresh gold plating! Comes with original ligature and non-original nickel cap (if you'd like it). It plays with a [brighter] tone than the classic Link tone.

Available as of 3-5-2015 -  AMAZING PRICE on a Florida Link!

He played all over the world and the mouthpiece shows heavy use and most of the gold (thru some silver) is down to brass in some places.  So since it was no longer original, we send it off to Bob Carpenter to improve the facing and it is open to a 0.090".

This is another great Link that had been tampered with so I sent it off to Bob C. Ser# 154, ultra-rare NEW YORK double band! This is before they moved to Florida, extra long biteplate. Bob was able to save it then he gold plated the repairs to seal it and the mouthpiece. The original plating was wearing too thin so, although we love to leave these as original as possible, in this case we had to seal it to protect them (ligature and mouthpiece).  Bob Carpenter reface, now a beautiful 0.105" or a Link 7* size. You know it's good when Bob takes it to the next gig, the whole gig, and THEN tells me how nice it played. haha. It plays excellent with a traditional smoky tone. Comes with the vintage ligature!

Selmer "Classic", metal Airflow C* tenor: another great Selmer mpc from the 1950s. Metal, Sultry and focused sound. It plays very nice overall. Tips and rails look great, original (perfected) tip measuring a correct 0.070". ROUNDED chamber (not the Horseshoe) makes this the rarer, and more desired Classic model. Note: The shank is a large fit for neck corks. Clear tooth guard installed. Comes with original ligature AND a metal RARE sliding cap. Seen one sell on ebay for 595.00, he should have seen me first!

I did a Tip Inspection on the mouthpiece and noticed that the very tip was not sealing well. This I fixed and silver plated any of the repairs. The photos above, and sound file below are before the repair--yes, it played great before even addressing the tip seal into a high quality.

Tip measures 0.061" and it's made of Hard Rubber from the 40s/50s. so paired with Selmer S.A. or S.B.A. models. it's in nice condition.  T--a very vintage, tubby sound and a good fit for orchestral work.

Wagner/Keilwerth Blank slimline model tenor, tip 0.090", "RAC 90-22":

wagnerBlankSlimlineRAC90_001.jpg (183213 bytes)wagnerBlankSlimlineRAC90_002.jpg (365141 bytes)a really nice hard rubber mouthpiece. It arrived at an original small tip 5, so I sent it off to Bob Carpenter for a refacing. Tip @ 0.090" with a 22mm facing--all marked on the table with Bob's signature. This is now a Wagner 8, Otto Link 6, or Meyer 7* by size.  It is a fantastic player! It has a mild warmth and very very nice focus to the sound in the MID range, response is butter! It has a small baffle and medium side walls. I compared this to several in Sarge's Collection (x3 others) and this one had the cleanest focus tone. Currently paired it with a alto, leather, rovner-like wrap.

It has a mild warmth, nice focus, but big tone from the tip. sound is strong in the MID range, response is great! It has a small baffle and medium side walls. Currently paired it with a alto, leather, rovner-like wrap.

Steel Ebonite - Merle Johnston - "RAC 90-21" tenor: SaxophonistMerleJohnston.jpg (161837 bytes)Here is a great MerleJohnstontenorRAC-90_002.jpg (186957 bytes) playing MerleJohnstontenorRAC-90_001.jpg (129239 bytes) hard rubber mouthpiece just back from Bob. He engraved his signature "RAC" on the table (but the numbers were double stamped--hard to read the "90-21"). Merle was a famous player in the 1920s-30s and teamed up with Selmer endorsement mouthpieces also. It reminds me much of the Woodwind Co. designed mouthpieces with a large round chamber and meaty tone with a bit of meyer-like nasal edge. Bob Carpenter refaced it to 0.090" with a 21mm facing, a little minor tooth mark,  it plays great with easy response. It should be listed at 299.00, but I will offer a nice deal! sorry, no ligature.

HazlettTenor001.jpg (239483 bytes)HazlettTenor002.jpg (253627 bytes)HazlettTenor003.jpg (148111 bytes)Another rare mouthpiece listed, it was named after the saxophonist in the Whiteman Orchestra of the 30s and 40s.  Terrific material and good classic design...very similar to "The Woodwind Co." models...  Large chamber makes for a big vintage sound. But also more suitable for Concert Bands and jazz alike. Bob Carpenter just opened this one up to a easy blowing 0.090" with a 21mm facing length and inscribed the his "RAC 90-21" on the table(sign of Bob's heartfelt workmanship again). The crystallized yellow band IS original! sorry, no ligature.

This has a great mellowness to the tone and blows Outstandingly easy! I REALLY wanted to keep this one when I got it back from Bob.  It plays so much like my Tonalin 5 (I use on most sound files) that it must be an Alto player's delight at that 0.090" tip.  = plays like butter!

The Woodwind Co., New York #5, brass tenor:  Here is another awesome, rare WoodwindCoNYtenors5,5-,6.jpg (752980 bytes)mouthpiece. heavy body brass design, ser# "X359". This mouthpiece blows really well and the tip is 0.093". On arrival it was a 0.092" but the table and tip seal needed my light touch. I wanted to keep this as true to the #5 as possible. These are often equated with Otto Links, however these have a smaller chamber. These are commonly seen and sought after in the #5 and #7 so this one is priced very nicely at:

Here is another awesome, rare mouthpiece. heavy body brass design, ser# "X317". The white tooth guard had a bad tooth groove and I'll have Bob C fix that. This mouthpiece blows really well and the tip is 0.097" (after I perfected the seal--table leveling, tip sealed, with Bob's supervision). And since I love about a 0.097, this explains why i really like this one. These are often equated with Otto Links, however these have a smaller chamber. This free-blowing mouthpiece comes with the original brass ligature and working nickel plated cap (not sure of original caps). These are commonly seen and sought after in the #5 and #7 so this one is priced very nicely at:

once you blow it, you'll not want to give it back!
