Selmer ‘AS500’ Eb Alto, #AK04xxx, Like New (Archived)

SOLD - These are great for kids. The name brand, nickel plated keys (stronger), and easy ergos. I got this one and suspect it was a floor model or unsold inventory because it it "like new" condition. It would seem wrong to turn this beauty into a rental, so I hope had it off to your child who will keep it nice. Comes with original case, and a mouthpiece. I'll see if I can help with any other accessories too. From Conn-Selmer.com: "The Selmer AS500 provides a great addition to the array of student through professional model saxophones available from Selmer. Beginning musicians and their teachers will notice the many design features that ensure a comfortable playing position for young hands. Features such as the adjustable right hand thumb rest and the linear design of the left and right hand key sections will help students get off to a great start. Young performers will value the high F# key that extends the range of the saxophone to facilitate performance of advanced literature. Parents will appreciate the durability of the nickel-plated key mechanism and the addition of a support guide to protect the vulnerable right-hand trill key hinge rods from damage. The innovative change of lowering the octave key pin flush with the top of the neck receiver will protect it from damage, especially when students forget to use the end plug. These are just a few of the special design features that establish the Selmer AS500 Eb Alto Saxophone as a noteworthy addition to the Selmer family of high quality instruments.
Nickel-plated keys, a high F# key, left- and right-hand section-adjusting screws, an engraved bell, clear lacquer finish over brass, rocking table key mechanism with articulated C# adjusting screw, an adjustable right-hand thumb rest," Item #:WWS4.9E9.50.381-7-0

Conn 1925 ‘New Wonder II – “Chu Berry”‘ Eb Baritone, Lacquer #156,xxx (Archived)

SOLD - Chu Sound Files to Enjoy! - A great horn for a player, gigger, conn-lover...etc! In lacquer, it's potentially a one-time relacquer. I say this because 1) lacquer wasn't used until about 1934, and 2) the lack of engraving leads me to believe that the sax was potentially nickel or bare brass from the factory. HINT: Let's do a custom restoration and engraving! There's some bumps and dings in the body, bow and bell. I'll burnish these out with love the best I can. Also there are a few ring resolders, mixed-matched springs, and guard resolder marks too.
OPTIONS: I'm considering this sax for a Silver Restoration because the bell is bare -- We can add a beautiful, custom-floral engraving. The price would go up significantly, but so would the beauty and 'wow factor'.
CASE: used protec in good condition. Just add a little extra padding for a secure fit.
REBUILD: a WWS Standard Rebuild included in the price. I recommend huge resonators (upgrade possible) and pads to match your playing environment.

Brilhart ‘Level Air #7 < #9' Tenor, 2000s, (RAC) - 0.110" (Archvied)

SOLD - This is one of my favorite mouthpieces of the modern makers! (my bias is toward a #7 tip). This was repaired/refaced by master refacer Bob Carpenter. All repairs were silver plated to seal them. Although you can get these new for a little less money, this one was inspected and perfected by hand. SOUND: a depth in tone (like a Berg Larsen), which crispness from the metal (nickel plated brass). Comes with replacement, brass ligature.

Jupiter ‘JAS-769’ Eb Alto, #H13k (Archived)

SOLD - I like these as a good "all round" starter sax (one of a few that meet this). Great Ergos, it has the high F# key, nice original hard case. Made in Taiwan, Gold lacquer, nickel keys.
Cosmetic Rating: 7.0 -- mostly great
There's a cosmetic issue on the bell that was the engraved school name (pictured). Aside from this alteration, the sax in excellent shape.

Keilwerth 1992 ‘Buffet Expression’ Bb Tenor, #98k (Archived)

SOLD - A pro sax that is the precursor to the Julius Keilwerth SX90. Don't let the "Buffet" label fool you; this is a Keilwerth sax. complete with the C/Eb design, high F# layout, and don't forget the adjustable palm key heights too! Serial # 98,xxx, it was built in about 1992. The dating is less exact on this era, but all info points to 1991-93. In the history of companies, Buffet and Keilwerth came under one ownership. Rumors from a friend/player in Iceland: These being made in the Buffet factory for Keilwerth. This seems correct as the pearl design is not that of Keilwerth (large version), but more like Buffet. SOUND: These are supremely warm and meaty, although not as meaty as my Couf or older JKs. I must insert the rumor here: factory talk of blending the JK with Buffet to build a [JK classical tone]. It this is true, I concur with this attempt because the sound is a bit more focused and reserved than my other Keilwerths in the shop (and my personal horn). REBUILD: I'd like to sell this with a full rebuild, and set it up to your specifications because it is playing on the original pad setup and it beginning to show age beyond what will be enjoyable. Let's discuss what you'd like; otherwise, I can put the JK Standard setup on it: seamless-domed, nickel resonators, on tan pads. CASE: original case in good condition.

Grassi 1974 ‘Standard-Jade Series’ Eb Alto, #27k (Archived)

SOLD - A "diamond in the rough" alto! This little Grassi has a tone that blows us away in the shop. It reminds me a of the French tone that everyone is after. Not many people have ever played a Grassi, even more so, there is not a ton of information on these. These were "Made in Italy". This #27k is right on the cusp of the model change over into the Jade Roller series. I cannot say if this sax is a true transitional-era sax with the black rollers, or if they were changed out. But this one has a black G# touch. However, the octave thumbrest is that correct Jade coloring. There are 3-4 resolders, and dented C-post that I'll work on. The needle springs are working great. FINISH: Original Lacquer Body, Nickel Plated Keys. SOUND: Sweet, vintage, French-like. Current pad setup is a stock Selmer-style with plastic resos. It plays well enough to hear the sweet tone, but I think that you'd really fall in love with this sax with a fresh WWS Rebuild and pads chosen for your preferences. ***WWS Rebuild included at the listed price.*** Any one who actually knows what these horns offer will agree with the common statement: "These horns are highly undervalued, and offer you more for the money than many others in the same price range". Conn 1941 ’10M’ Bb Tenor, #295,xxx (Archived)

SOLD - Looking for a loud Conn 10M under $2000? Since I see a faint engraving, I must say "re-lacquer"; the previous owner was sold this sax as Original, but I doubt that it is. The wear on the bell could be from use, or old buffing. Wear and tear report: A few dents in the rear bow, rolled tone holes that do look like some were flattened, none appear to be filed through the 'roll', no missing set-screws(one was cut into the post to remove--upper octave button post), one replaced pivot screw(C#1), upper bell lip has slight bent (I can help). Overall, it's a complete 10M with a huge, loud sound.
SOUND: This one is particularly "crisp" in tone. I suspect this tone is due to the mostly bare-brass finish.
PADS: the setup is tan pads on smaller flat resos with rivet (similar to Conn originals). Some pads with rivet only. I would guess, depending on use, they are 10-25 years old. They will play as is, with mild tuneups along the way, for another 1-7 years(depending on use).
CASE: a very nice Hiscox case! ($280+).
I would recommend this sax get a full rebuild to be enjoyed fully, however, since it can play great for a while with some tuneups, I will sell it with two prices.

Conn 1926 ‘New Wonder II – “Chu Berry”‘ Eb Baritone, Silver #171k (Archived)

SOLD - In outstanding condition! Wow, a baritone that wasn't beat up over the last 90+ years!!! The body, keys, and condition are in great shape. This sax deserves to be loved by a caring adult who wants to rock the low end. I say that because there is no high F on this model and, really, baritones needs to stay in the low end anyway. Rebuilt, this baritone will be a looker and your friends will all stare. It's being sold via WWS for a friend, but the sax, rebuild and guarantees will all be like a normal transaction through WWS.
REBUILD: customize it to your wishes. It will be done here at WWS. My recommendation: put some huge Resotech resos on it and it will have some serious bark to the tone.
CASE: The old, original case is bad. (safe for shipping). But I recommend we address this. I can work with you to get a new Protec (sized for Low A required to fit). This can be shipped here before or after work is complete.
