Recently released to be listed "for sale" from Sarge's Collection. This mouthpiece has serial # M1029 on it.
TONE: ... it's special. Wow. Like a velvety depth with presence also.

STORY TIME:
After making the Sound File, I wrote to the customer who was purchasing it.
Chadd: "I made my sound file today. The(your) Bril was fantastic. I looked at my apprentice and said “that’s not coming back” out of sadness. It had me playing new riffs … just magic. What a special tone! You're going to love it. Very even tone throughout the whole range--that impressed me!--with a booming low end." (I tested it on my worn in Java green #2.5)
MB: "The VB got here last night. Had a chance to do a quick play--fun! Husky tone on the bottom end, easy-playing. It will be a nice addition to the Selmer Jazz D."
"...Top end seemed a little less focused than the Jazz D, but that may have been the reed, or getting used to the VB."
"...On second play, forget that--the top end is very even, as you said. And the bottom, wow--on the King Marigaux the VB is pure 1940's big man tenor sound--think Webster or Hawkins--just a perfect match. I think the word is "sexy", with that husky overtone; I should sell the combination to some young guy, and when he played a ballad...them girls would be lining up. Add that to your description!"
"...One difference I see--the VB is more reed-sensitive, while the Selmer Jazz D is a beast with just about any reed until it's just about worn out, then it gets a harsh tone. On some reeds (pretty much all Java Green 2's) you can switch from the VB to the Jazz and the sound perks up, much more focus and projection. But catch a reed that plays well on the VB and whoa."
