Vintage MC Gregory, triple-rail, with OFFSET center rail - even more rare! Most were centered down the middle. The toothpad is in great shape too with the metal aluminum shank band. Script logo puts this in the middle era of the Gale line, if the triple-rail didn't already lock that in.
REFEACING: I don't have a clear record on the refacing work. However, I bought this from a longtime WWS client. And since I also know my mentor's work(Bob Carpenter), part of the refacing looks like his trade skills(the tip & baffle). The rough work on the center rail does not look look like Bob's craftsmanship. I am under the strong impression that Bob C revived this mouthpiece to save it!
SOUND: By my memory, this played really mellow; like you'd expect from a 074 tip and a rubber medium chamber mouthpiece. It was free blowing and clean in tone. It didn't like to be pushed for volume and air-flow.
*Word on the street is that people generally didn't like the triple rail (center rail option). They would grind it out and get left with the great Gregory foundation of a mouthpiece. However, untested in a side-by-side, does this offset-triple-rail play better than the others?
This is a collector's joy. If you're looking here, you already have the right heart to be the next caretaker of this mouthpiece.
