LACQUER REVIEW: Elements of original lacquer and factory flaws that happen across models. It is the professional opinion of WWS that this sax is both in the original lacquer as well as having had some thin layer of near-clear coat lacquer added, like a protection coat. This can be seen in the engraving having the small flaking edges of lacquer at the deep cut edge. This was common in time. Selmer did put a final coat of lacquer on AFTER the engraving was cut to seal the brass. I have verified this with a closet queen example of SBA, and other Mark VI models examples. However, this sax has some other faint scratch marks on the bell that lead me to see them as under the coating. These must be under the diagnosed added protection lacquer coat. Knowing the family history on this, such a coating would have had to have happened prior to 1970.
